The following deserves at least a category 2. A recent post.

How can students develop self-reliance when allowed to phone the teacher?

Is there a whiff of dependency in all this? It’s bad in a parent – child relationship; it’s worse when it’s between teacher and student.

I just got off the phone with one of the (name withheld) charter school teachers who led the school’s organizing drive, (name withheld) . Maybe the most interesting part of our short conversation was the fact that, during it, (name withheld) took two phone calls from students, both homework questions.

Thus is the world we live in now. I can only imagine what my type A peers in (specific area withheld) Maryland, would have done with that kind of information, back in the day. (name withheld), for her part, said she likes it that students have her cell phone number. Answering their homework questions makes sure they learn best, she said.
